About This Spot

Stepping into Café Portrait feels like entering a quietly vibrant corner of Vancouver where art and comfort blend effortlessly. Nestled on Denman Street, this intimate brunch spot carries the soft hum of low conversations mingling with the gentle clink of coffee cups, inviting guests to slow down and linger. The pace here is unhurried, the atmosphere punctuated by walls adorned with portraits that add a personal, almost gallery-like character to the cozy cubicle seating. Each table creates a small, welcoming enclave, offering a sense of privacy while still being part of a shared, warm space.

There’s a simple joy in watching the ebb and flow of people here—from early risers savoring carefully brewed Turkish coffee, to friends sharing plates rich with flavors that tell stories beyond the usual breakfast fare. The menu feels thoughtfully curated, with dishes that invite discovery, like the vibrant shakshuka or the tender, soft omelettes that somehow capture a homely elegance. The experience extends beyond just what’s on the plate; a sip of a silky vanilla latte or the subtle crunch of an almond croissant completes the moment, grounding the day in something quietly special.

Café Portrait’s charm also lies in its approachable, genuine spirit. The small space is filled with a warmth that resonates in the attentive service and the feeling that the kitchen and the front of house are tuned into something more than just feeding you—they’re crafting an experience. The art around you, available to purchase, adds a tangible layer to the ambiance, making the environment feel alive and thoughtfully curated without ever standing in the way of the unfolding human moments.

For anyone looking to nestle into a spot where brunch is more than a meal—where it’s a relaxed occasion framed by good conversation, quiet creativity, and heartfelt care—Café Portrait quietly awaits just steps from the buzz of the city. It’s a place that invites you to come as you are, stay a little longer, and maybe, just maybe, find a new favorite moment tucked between brushstrokes and the comfort of well-loved flavors.

No resos but the line wasn't bad! Keep in mind they won't seat you until your entire party is present. The space inside is small but cozy. I loved the art and decor style! The food was also unique and delicious. I had the omelette and it was soooo soft. My friends had the avocado toast and the sausage skillet and they both enjoyed their meals as well. There is no ketchup on the table so if you would like some, then you need to ask!

I met up with a friend today and we weren’t sure what to eat. While walking toward English Bay, we noticed a restaurant with a long line of people waiting. Since my friend had her dog with her, we stopped to take a look, and one of the servers came over and asked if it was a table for two. We hadn’t planned to eat there at first, but it looked lively and inviting, so we decided to give it a try. Because we had the dog, we sat at one of the outdoor seats by the entrance — it was a lovely spot with nice sunshine. The weather was perfect, and the food was great! I ordered the Turkish sausage with yogurt and asked for no spicy dressing. It tasted just right. The coffee was also surprisingly good. Inside, the place was beautifully decorated — you can tell a lot of thought went into the details. I’ll definitely come back next time I’m around English Bay! @@ Dog Friendly restaurant

This is my go-to local spot. If you’re looking for a cozy brunch place with amazing service, you have to try it. The vibes are warm and welcoming, and the food is consistently delicious. The owner, Dennis, is such a kind and genuine person, and you can really feel the care he puts into the experience. Highly recommend!

My mom and I visited on Christmas for brunch and it was delicious! I loved the interior/decor and the whole theme of portraits that you can actually purchase. (I loved the bathroom sink!) I got the mushroom hash and my mom got the bacon eggs benedict. I loved the hash, the potatoes were tasty, the mushroom and onions were good and there wasn't too much cheese as I am not a huge fan of cheese. Sourdough toast was good. I don't like sunny-side eggs though so I just ate the whites. It came with a lot of sour cream, salsa was nice. My mom loved her dish and again potatoes were yummy! There was a line up so we waited over 30mins I think but we were given a small tea while we waited. There is very limited seating as the place is quite small. But certainly cozy once seated! Even the table was art! Staff was super friendly! We will be back again

Cafe for art lovers. Unusual decor with paintings and each table is in its own cubicle so you feel a little privacy. Sakshuka and almond cappuccino was great. Wish they had a soya milk option on a menu as well.

very sweet service. we had to wait about 30 minutes in line to get a table, but they offered us some hot tea while waiting, which was really nice and helped warm us up a bit. the coffee was good, the food was okay, not mind-blowing but still nice. service was great and the atmosphere was just lovely. overall a really good spot for brunch

I chose this brunch café to celebrate my birthday, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. The food was fresh and delicious, with the avocado being especially impressive. The cappuccino tasted just like the ones I enjoyed in Europe, though the caffeine was a bit strong, so that’s something to keep in mind. The atmosphere made me feel as if I had traveled to Turkey, giving the place an exotic charm that really matched my style. It was a truly happy time, and the servers were incredibly friendly. I would definitely recommend this café to anyone looking for a special brunch experience.
